People have this idea about binge eating like it’s some awful thing. And for most of you, it probably it. Because you’re eating 3-4 meals a day and a binge for you just means eating a bunch of pizza, ice cream and cookies. Bingeing on junk food is not good.
But when you starve yourself for many days in a row, naturally you are going to overcompensate and eat more than your body can handle the next time you do a refeed.
This is totally normal and not bad at all. The way to make sure you don’t get into trouble is to decide ahead of time what you are going to refeed WITH when it finally is time to eat.
Cole likes to say to refeed on 500 calories of lean meat and vegetables. Personally I like to eat until I’m absolutely stuffed and would recommend the same for an extremely obese person. Granted, after they eat they should be fasting for another 2-3-4 days. And they should be eating healthy food during their “binge.”
If you binge on raw meat and vegetables for example, how much damage can you really do to yourself? Maybe you eat what, an extra 1000 calories? 2000? If you fast for 3-4 days after that, it’s not really going to matter.
The issue is that when people binge, their discipline takes a hit. And when that happens it affects other areas of their lives too.
