CLEARCUT | Keeping Israel’s qualitative military edge in the Mideast is crucial and highly beneficial to US security, Rep. Dan Crenshaw tells Michelle Makori in an exclusive interview at the Christians United for Israel (CUFI) summit on why he’s pushing for a bill to increase regional security with the Jewish State.
Israel and the United States began a joint air defense drill on Monday that will see the deployment of the THAAD anti-missile battery in an unprecedented first for the Jewish state, a signal of tightening military cooperation between the two allies.
The purpose of the exercise, according to an English-language statement published by the Israeli military is “to practice rapid deployment across the globe of complex systems, to enhance cooperation with the IAF’s air defense systems” as well as to “emphasize the US’s commitment to the defense and security of Israel.”
Hailing the US deployment of the powerful defense system, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it demonstrated “further evidence of the US’s commitment to Israel’s security.”
In a video released by his office, the premier praised the system as “one of the most advanced in the world, and together with our defense systems we are even stronger in dealing with threats from throughout the Middle East,” adding that, “Israel-US ties have never been stronger.”
The two countries only recently completed a more routine joint exercise in February, dubbed ‘Juniper Falcon’ which involved both the military’s air defense forces and aimed “to reinforce the familiarity between the forces,” General Ran Kochav, commander of the Air Defense Division of the IAF said at the time.
